“Misfortune is what makes you grow.”

This is a line from a manga I happened to see. How did you feel when you heard the words in the title?
Most of the time, it sounds like a beautiful thing,
but I think it’s a word that makes sense to people who have overcome a certain degree of hardship and are living in the present.
The words were spoken by the grandfather to his granddaughter, who had experienced abuse at the hands of her mother and was worried that she would become like her mother when she grew up and became a mother herself.

“But you gained tremendous strength from that suffering. That strength is kindness towards others. If you had only been surrounded by happiness, you would not have become strong. Life is not simple.
Don’t you think that the misfortunes of life are evil? People grow because of their misfortunes. Misfortunes make people’s hearts bigger.
I want you to realize that the problems in your life are there for your own good. Misfortunes are a gift to you.
You’re not the same as your mother. You have to finish it! You can change it!”

I felt that this was true, but I think it’s inevitable that some people think that it would be better if they didn’t have any problems, or that problems aren’t gifts.
The old man was able to say this because he understood her strength.
However, if many people hear these lines, it’s a matter of how they perceive them, so
the problem is still with themselves.
I hope that people who are carrying emotional scars will be able to overcome them one day, even if they can’t see it now, through various experiences and interactions with different people.
